TYPES
OF TRAINS
Trains are classified as follows:
Eurostar: high speed train - reservation necessary
IC (Intercity): express train - supplementary fare (waived
with Eurail passes) - first and second class cars
EU (Eurocity): international train service - first and second
class cars
EXPR (Espresso): express train - first and second class
cars
DIR (Diretto): express train - often only second class cars
available
LOCALE/REGIONALE: local or regional slow train serving smaller
towns |

Advance Ticket Purchase
We can help you plan your trip and purchase tickets in advance. Please email us at info@culturalitaly.com with trip dates, preferred travel times, departure/arrival cities, number of people, class preference. We will contact you with pricing and options
Validations
Travelers must validate their ticket before getting into the train at
the special yellow stamping machines located within the train station.
Stamped tickets have to be used within 6 hours.
Reservations
Reservations are recommanded during the summer (especially on the weekends)
and can be made by calling the Trenitalia service at 89.20.21 from Italy
(Euro 5.1 + Euro 2,20 per minute) or Cit Rail in USA (1 800 CIT RAIL,)
or Rail Europe (1 800 4 EURAIL.)
Eating & sleeping
Long
distance train have a restaurant or self-service car. Sleeping car must
be booked in advance (see reservations right above.)
Bicycles & cars
Bicyles and cars can also be shipped (1 bicycle per person allowed /
transport of cars possible only along main lines.)
Printed train schedule
Printed rail schedule are visible at all train stations (yellow is for
departures; white for arrivals.) You can also purchase a specific schedule
publication at the station's new stands. Those publications are usually
valid for 6 months.
