TREKKING IN THE ROCCHE & ROERO
A weekend walking along the wild ridges of the Rocche, deep sandy-walled cliffs that suddenly open between the gentle hills of Roero. The Rocche can reach drops of hundreds of metres creating peaks of enchanting and imposing shapes, where you can easily spot archaeological finds. Between April and October more than 950 different botanical species come into bloom: 8 useful months for the bees to work, various fragrances and flavours for honey. In the villages of the Rocche, bees and beekeepers are natural inhabitants with a centuries-old tradition: through the farmers’ paths you will come across beehives and the Houses of the bees, rural ciabot built to keep farm tools, with a basic form of wall-mounted beehive in its interior for the breeding of bees, a method unique from the rest of Europe.
