Lake Region

The Lakes regions is a favored destination for distinguished European travelers and famous celebrities. The region is comprised of many lakes but the three largest, Lake Como and Lake Maggiore to the east of Milan, and Lake Garda to the west are most famous for their incredible villas and recreational activities. Great small towns to visit along the shores of Lake Como: Cernobbio, with the renowned Villa Erba, Villa D'Este and villa Pizzo, which has a vast park; Moltrasio, with villa Fontanelle, Villa Rosa, villa Passalacqua and Villa Hocevar, where the composer Bellini lived; Bellaggio, considered the pearl of the lake, with Villa Serbelloni and the botanical gardens of Villa Melzi; Tremezzo with Villa Carlotta, known for its beautiful botanical gardens. Lake Maggiore is famous for its islands called Borromee. The islands feature the Borromee family villas with enchanting botanical gardens, and can be reached by boat. The town of Stresa hosts an annual Music Festival during the months of July and August and is a popular destination. Verbania is home to the Villa Taranto which houses a botanical park with species from all over the world. Lake Garda is known for its shopping, hotels, markets and restaurants. The thermal town of Sirmione attracts those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation from the lake's healing waters. Major attractions: small towns like Bellaggio, Varenna, Cernobbio, Tremezzo in Lake Como, Stresa and Verbania in Lake Maggiore, Desenzano, Peschiera and Sirmione in Lake Garda.
