VATICAN MUSEUMS

This is one of the most incredible art collections in the world. Masterpieces and artifacts range from Egyptian mummies to medieval tapestries and Renaissance paintings. Not to be missed are the Raffaello rooms and the Sistine Chapel with the Last Judgement by Michelangelo.

Reservation fees: Euro 10 per person
Tickets Euro 19 per person; Euro 13 for students from 6 to 18 years old
The names of all participants are required. The date, state & city of birth of the group leader is also required.

- November 21st and December 4th 2009 the museums will be closed
- NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM: every Friday till the end of October the museums will be open from 7 to 11 pm (last entrance at 9:30 pm) Visitors will be able to admire important collections, following an itinerary that includes the Upper Galleries of the Vatican Museums (Candelabra, Tapestries and Maps) the Raphael Stanze and the Sistine Chapel.
Booking online is mandatory. During the Nighttime Openings of October the Vatican Museums offer a calendar of evening special lectures (in italian) open to the public:

Ivan Di Stefano Manzella, Deities, emperors, people between extraordinary events and everyday life: evidences in the Lapidary Gallery.
N.B.: Exit from the galleries begins 30 minutes prior to closing time.
- ASTRUM: Astrum 2009 is an exhibition located inside the Vatican Museums from October 16, 2009 to January 16, 2010. The exhibition is orientated on the history, functioning and evolution of the different instruments created by Man over ten centuries for the observation of the sky, for the location of the stars and celestial bodies. An important selection of the most precious and rarest instruments for astronomic observation, lent by many Italian observatories, will be on show for the public to admire. The cost of the online ticket is Euro 4,00. AStrum will be open to visitors from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm (last entrance at 4.00 pm).

The Vatican Museums will be open to visitors from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm (last entrance at 9:30 pm). VATICAN GARDENS

These gardens were laid out in the 16th century and can be admired for their thickets, lawns, artificial grottos, fountains, and stucco decorated buildings.

Cost: Euro 32 per person; Euro 27 for students from 6 to 18 years old + Euro 10 reservation fee per person
Tickets include a group tour.
The names of all participants are required.

VATICAN NECROPOLIS

This sacred ground is dedicated to the memory of Saint Peter and other martyrs and serves as the ground on which the Saint Peter’s Basilica was built. Children under 15 years old are not allowed.

PAPAL AUDIENCE

Audiences with His Holiness are held on Wednesdays at around 11 am. During winter they are held in the hall of the Papal Audiences or inside Saint Peter’s Basilica, and a reservation is required. During the summer they might be held in Saint Peter’s square or in the Papal summer residence in Castel Gandolfo, and no reservation is required. Catholics are requested to have a letter of introduction from their parish priest. There are usually about 2000 people at a given audience.

Papal Audiences are held on Wednesdays at 10:30 or 11:00 am
