The 2013 Rome Carnival

2, 3 or 4 NIGHTS
The 2013 Rome Carnival
Ancient Roman society knew the importance of shedding castes and celebrating life as  a single group in joy. Modern festivals both pay homage to, and celebrate the importance of, community joining together in celebration.

Packages and Schedule of Events

The Carnival was not born in Rio de Janeiro and even in Venice, but in the Eternal City. In ancient Rome in fact, in mid-December, Romans celebrated the Saturnali in honor of Saturn, the god of sowing and harvest. The party was to recreate the reign of this god, the fabled Golden Age when there were no differences between men and all the goods were in common. The Carnival is a festival celebrated in countries of Christian tradition in the time before Lent. The event, which involves the entire city of Rome, is often played in public parades where playful and imaginative elements dominate. The characters of the celebration of carnival festivities in Rome have origins in much older pagan festivals that were an expression of the need for a temporary dissolution of the social obligations and hierarchies.
