BEADS MAKING
The softened glass is formed into a finished piece by manipulating it by hand and shaping it with hand tools. In this hands-on introductory week-long class, we will have an overview of lampworking skills and feature surface decoration. Various techniques will be demonstrated and discussed including millefiori powdering, raking, canetwist and metal inclusion. At the end of the day the work will be joined with leather, string or metal into beautiful jewelry. Basic information about glass, tools and studio set-up is also covered. Students are encouraged to experiment.
All the students will work on their own flame; they will be able to keep all the pieces at the end of the course.

MODELING SOLID SCULPTURES
The softened glass is formed into a finished piece by manipulating it by hand and shaping it with hand tools. During the lessons small objects will be made, such as animals, insects,cruets, small figures, murrine, etc., gold and silver inserts. Later on some more complex objects will be produced using four hands - the teacher and the student.
Basic information about glass, tools and studio set-up is also covered. Together with a survey of the various artistic application students are encouraged to experiment.
All the students will work on their own flame; they will be able to keep all the pieces at the end of the course.

BASIC GLASS FUSING
Flat plate glass can be re-worked in the kiln taking on new forms and colours particular to this art: plates, bowls, vases, sheets for windows, lamps, doors, etc. Work is carried out in the following phases: cutting of sheets (colored and transparent); building up of forms by overlying sheets; preparation of moulds in fiber and terracotta; use of colours and glazes, firing, and working with molten glass. Each phase of the process is preceded by an introduction to the properties of the material and its various states in the kiln (daily progression). All the students will work on their own projects, which they will be able to keep at the end of the course.

GLASSFUSING COURSE BY MIRIAM DI FIORE
The course is aimed at experienced students who wish to further their knowledge of glass fusion by making better use of materials in order to obtain a particular sort of after effects. The techniques include the following: LIGHT PAINTING: The technique of obtaining glass fusion of high graphical, optical and aesthetic quality: The process uses an individually chosen image which is reproduced on a flat surface using glass sheets, frits and strings melted down in successive heating steps until the finest quality is obtained. In addition to this, the students will get experience in kiln melted glass procedures involving glass intervention during the fusion process to obtain sheets with unusual effects similar to marble, spiral and other special appearances obtained in a furnace. Bullseye glass is used throughout the course due to its high compatibility. Students are given the opportunity to verify any technical or aesthetic problems they have and to exchange experiences. Students are welcome to bring photographs of their own work to the course. Further information about materials and equipment will be issued upon enrolment.

GLASS PAINTING: GRISAILLES
This course introduces students to the techniques of decorating of stained-glass, employing the various products which will be later fired in a kiln. The working cycle is as follows: - choice of the decoration, - bringing back of the scale model on glossy paper, - choice of the colors and cutting of the glass, - preparation of the color, remaking of the stained- glass on a transparent glass and waxing, - painting with grisailles, firing, remake of the decoration and second firing, - leading, soldering and pasting of the stained- glass. A second stained-glass will be made by adding enamels and silver-yellow.

GRISAILLE, STAINED GLASS BUILDING, TIFFANY
The different techniques of joining and assembling of glass plates and slabs are practiced: - the Tiffany method uses tin to solder the various pieces of coloured glass; - the mosaic is held together by lead;
Students are also introduced to the techniques of decorating of stained-glass, employing the various products which will be later fired in a kiln.
